Scott Case Heads to Jury in 1958 Murder Trial
Los Angeles. The murder trial of L. Ewing Scott, 61, for the death of his socialite wife Evelyn Throsby Scott, 63, who has been missing since May 1958, nears closing as defense argues the prosecution has not proven he killed her to gain a $600,000 estate. The defense claims cash withdrawals were made to or by Mrs. Scott and that she may be alive. The jury could begin deliberations early next week.

In Sacramento a federal water dispute looms over surplus supplies from California streams. The Central Valleys Project and California Water Commission push a legal study after San Diego official Phil B. Swing voiced concern about a U. S. Bureau of Reclamation claim to Feather River and other valley waters. Murray of the bureau said rights should recognize CVP relief and prior operation, while the commission seeks staff review of federal jurisdiction on east Sierra and Pacific waters.
