MIT to lead first major US cancer research center outside medical schools
Nobel laureate Dr Salvador E Luria will head a new MIT cancer research center in Cambridge Massachusetts funded by the National Cancer Institute with a 2.13 million construction grant and a 13 376 dollar first year operating grant plus a three year 3.89 million commitment. The project aims to study basic cancer biology including virus related mechanisms cell membrane factors immunology and cell development with initial 12 researchers and no clinical studies for three years.
