Long Beach Doctors Report Hopeful Lung Disease Treatment
Two Long Beach researchers presented a trial of a novel therapy that suppresses thyroid activity and uses radioactive iodine to treat advanced lung disease. In 18 patients with emphysema some with polycythemia, all improved with reduced metabolism and better oxygen use, and those with excess red blood cells benefited most.
