Auto editor Charlotte Montgomery reports a private survey showing women view cars as practical tools for work and transport, seeking safety features and ease of operation. Men influence design on size and horsepower, but women value small, maneuverable cars with better visibility and user friendly interiors.
The article notes women volunteers suggesting car improvements from better rear view vision, defrosters, larger glove compartments, to rain protection and adjustable steering. They call for adjustable seats, safer hood glare, keyless entries, easier access in station wagons, and devices accommodating women under 5'5" to improve comfort and sightlines.
