Recreation plans win county approval for beach use and parks

Los Angeles County Supervisors endorsed two plans to aid youth. They will take over 1.6 miles of Topanga Canyon beach as a public area and extend summer recreation with Office of Economic Opportunity support. The move preserves ongoing programs, with funding details clarified and conditions set for Sept. 1 opening. A second item supported continuing county wide recreation via Parks and Recreation as OEO subcontractor, ensuring canceled summer programs are restored. The bill also notes a Senate committee approved a fur ban on dogs and cats.
