New York AP report notes a quiet session as Ford's news briefing touched markets little. Major blocks traded include Salomon crossing 1.0 million BP shares at 64.4 and Merrill Lynch crossing 1.5 million Pan Am shares, the fifth largest on NYSE. Pan Am fell 4 percent. BP slipped 0.5 percent for the day as the Dow averaged 403.40. Exchange volume reached 10.67 million, the highest since July.
