Medicare fraud charges target long time physician
A 55 year old Long Beach doctor, Dr Phil Hansen of 3780 Woodruff Ave, is indicted on 21 counts for allegedly defrauding Medicare of about 150000. He faces 18 fraud counts 2 counts of obtaining money under false pretenses and one conspiracy count. Investigators say he used Medicare reimbursements to obtain country club memberships buy art and settle debts. The indictment follows a prior case against Woodruff Community Hospital administrator John Christiansen who pled guilty to conspiracy in a related scheme.

Six held after fracas injures four Harbor officers
Six men were arrested and four Harbor Division policemen suffered minor injuries in a slugging and karate chop incident in San Pedro Monday night. Lt. D. D. Williams said 14 to 16 officers and at least nine men identified as Black Muslims were involved at Second and Palos Verdes Streets during the 8 p.m. fracas. Those arrested were booked on battery on a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon.
