Farewell to a great lady on the New Jersey
The ward room gathering aboard Theresa marks a quiet sendoff for the USS New Jersey as sailors reflect on battles fought and a ship still in mint condition. Lt Richard Kerr notes loyalty to the vessel since 1967 while Cmdr Roy Short recalls near 25 years in service and pride in keeping the Big J ready to return.

Hood family Alaska vacation amid Barrow ice and high costs
Sam Hood Jr and son Steve leave California for Barrow Alaska for a four week trip. They hunt and fish with limited success as seal sinks and a few candlefish are caught. Prices in Barrow are high and weather brutal with two days of real summer and long daylight. Oil finds and new research stations reshape the area while local wages rise to offset costs.
