Gift of Birchers Demos Told Return Gift of Birchers

Rep. Ronald Cameron urged the Democratic National Committee to return $12,000 allegedly donated to the President's Club by two Los Angeles engineering consultants and their wives. He claimed J Edward and Albert Martin joined the club. Martin linked to the John Birch Society and Los Angeles County GOP. Cameron blamed the DNC for letting dollars drive policy, calling for the funds to be returned.

Grand Jury Indicts 2 In Riverside Land Deal

In Los Angeles a grand jury indicted California Scenic View Lands operator Edward R. Brown and Encino land developer Ira V. Grove, and attorney on 41 counts of grand theft and 46 counts of violating corporate security law in a $260,000 Riverside land deal. They allegedly sold undivided interests beyond existing interests in 745 acres Eden Hot Springs and 200 acres Buffalo Ranch, with many victims testifying to vague payments. Arraignment date not set.

The estate of Isadore Zellerbach widow of Crown Zellerbach’s former president is appraised at 27,076,162.53. Solons Vote to Continue Transit Aid

Congress completed action to day on legislation to continue federal aid for big city transit systems at a cost of 300 million over the next two years. The House approved and sent to the White House a compromise bill under which grants for mass transit development will continue at present levels for 24 months from July 1. The Senate approved the measure Thursday in a compromise version of bills from both houses. The House had initially voted for a one year extension at 150 million. The roll call was 156 to 86.

Two insurance salesmen pledge repay of 180000 in LA project

Washington reports two young insurance salesmen Hugh Crouse of Mansfield Ohio and Donavan Karnes of Cleveland testified before a Senate subcommittee they would account for or repay about 180000 traced to diversions from the Barrington Plaza project in West Los Angeles. Auditors described a tangled scheme involving record falsification secret bank accounts and misapplied rents tied to an FHA guaranteed 18.6 million mortgage. They claimed personal funds were commingled with project money and sales commissions misused to cover shortfalls. The FHA now operates the project and will cover the mortgage plus related costs.
