Bradsford art controversy ends with gallery display restored
An artist model from Bradford confronted Alderman Horace Hird over nude paintings described as lewd. After Hird’s ban, the gallery committee overruled him, prompted by the British Arts Council threat to close the show. Mrs. Damen Phillips defends the works as important art, while Hird insists such exhibitions can corrupt minds. In a separate note, Robert Tormey of Chicago nearly drowned after a diving accident at Paw Paw Lake, with his wife filming and bystanders providing rescue.
