New York cop uses ruse to calm lynch mob at station
In New York City a mob outside a Lower East Side station demanded punishment for a boy killer. After hours of shouting a decoy trick released a civilian in a police uniform, while the real suspect, a 5 foot 7 inch Hispanic man with a limp, remained at large. Additional confusion involved a separate incident in Germany where a 17-year-old East German escaped across a border death strip after a shrapnel wound.
