Washington report says Col William Blair, retired Signal Corps scientist of Fair Haven SNJ, is the inventor behind a basic radar patent. Blair conceived the idea before 1936 and has had a fundamental application since June 1945. The Army notes radar as a pulse echo system and that secrecy delayed the patent until 1945.

Super Sabres Collide Mile High, Pilot Dies

A US Air Force pilot died after a midair collision between two F100 Super Sabres over Tarlac in Central Luzon. Capt. Merlin T. Michell, 38, Gainesville, Texas, bailed out and survived. The incident occurred between 3,000 and 12,000 feet, and was announced by 13th Air Force headquarters.

Balloon coming down as Air Force doctor reaches 102000 feet

Maj. David G. Simons, Air Force doctor flier, reached 102000 feet in a balloon ascent to study upper air conditions and human survivability. He sent a radio report before descending near Crosby Minnesota. Ground crews tracked his position about 50 miles west of Srekencidge. He began from a mine near Crosby Monday morning, well above the previous record.

Nevada Nuclear Test Delayed by Storm
