Northeast Airlines Loses Florida Route
The Civil Aeronautics Board ordered Northeast Airlines to cease its New York to Florida service by Oct. 14, reducing the carrier to a local service airline after a 3 to 2 vote. The board rejected renewal of Philadelphia Baltimore and Washington and Florida service, citing lack of public necessity. The ruling prompts Senate hearings as Kennedy warns of higher rates and duopoly risks for Northeast and regional air service.
