Students to Hire Pro to Lobby in Sacramento
Two senators and two students announced a professional student lobbyist will join five other lawmakers in Sacramento as the universities form United Students. Sen. Nicholas Petris said the group would be 100 percent financed by students and could hire top professionals with a potential annual budget of 780000 if every California student contributed one dollar. Linda Bond noted campus presidents and others were involved as the plan moves from proposal toward organization.

Senate Consumer Protection Bill Falls Short in California
In Sacramento the Senate defeated a major consumer protection bill aimed at displaying prices and price per unit on edible items, excluding meat and fresh vegetables. Proponents argued it would lower household costs by up to 10 percent, potentially saving California families about $1 billion annually, while opponents warned pricing would raise costs and housewives could compute costs themselves.
