Nehru Objects to Voice of America Pact in Parliament
New Delhi Prime Minister Nehru criticized the July 9 agreement to relay Voice of America programs to Southeast Asia in exchange for a transmitter. He warned the pact would strain Indo-US relations and contravene India’s nonalignment policy. US officials reportedly refuse delivery unless the transmitter is used for American programs. The issue underscores tensions over Cold War broadcasting and sovereignty.
