Moretti Reagan forge welfare reform deal in California

In Sacramento Democratic Assembly Speaker Moretti and GOP Governor Reagan set aside mutual animosity to negotiate a final welfare reform package. After five days of tough talks and 22 hours of face to face sessions, they produced a written agreement aimed at ending welfare abuse while aiding the needy. Moretti said Reagan gained new respect for the Legislature and confidence that promises will be kept. The bill passed the Democrat controlled Legislature and was signed by Reagan. Meanwhile in Malaysia security forces in Sarawak arrested more than nine people for subversive and Communist activities.
