Year of the Woman proclaimed amid constitutional debate
1970 proclaimed as the Year of the Woman amid remarks by Mrs Gladys O'Donnell of the Republican Women’s Federation. She urged progress toward legal equality while criticizing feminism and noting Supreme Court limits on applying civil rights to women. She named lawmakers opposing the ERA and dismissed critics as out of step with modern policy.
