Letter of thanks from Tashkent to San Francisco Mayor

A deciphered letter from Tashkent expresses gratitude to San Francisco Mayor George Christopher for gifts and his visit, and for San Francisco’s care of four Busan soldiers who recovered here after a small landing craft incident. Translators sought payment, but one scholar offered free translation. The Army noted Tashkent residents also thanked the city for helping the shipwrecked sailors.

Move Vote on Alaskan Capital Lost

Alaska voters rejected a proposal to move the state capital from Juneau to the Cook Inlet area with 190 of 292 precincts counted. Anchorage backed relocation 3-1, while Southeast Alaska opposed 30-1. statewide total: 16,021 for, 19,113 against. Juneau led the campaign statewide aside from Anchorage. Lawmakers named to GOP speech panel include Sen. Roman L. Hrushka and Rep. Gerald R. Ford.
