21 story Long Beach hotel proposed by Rossca Inc
The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency approved in concept a 21 story hotel plan on Ocean Boulevard by Rossca Inc of Century City. The hotel, named Hotel Long Beach, would have 375 rooms and a 375 space parking garage, with a glass enclosed elevator to a top floor restaurant and disco. Two sites were shown, one near Home Savings and Loan, near First Street and Pine and Locust Avenues. Lipton of Rossco said construction would finish about two years after financing. The project would include tennis courts, a pool, sundeck and health facilities on the third floor above the parking structure, plus shops and offices. The agency stressed the project aligns with the downtown plan and would add activity to the midtown district and support the convention center investment. Rooms were projected at 45 dollars a day, with about 5 million gross and 1.6 million net income.

Federal energy chief backs cheap Alaska oil transport plan
Federal Energy Administrator John F. O Leary said a proposed California Texas pipeline would move Alaska oil cheaply to the East and Midwest. He stopped short of endorsing the Sohio BP Long Beach to Midland route, citing no regulatory authority to pick pipelines and urging state involvement to weigh environmental costs. He noted tanker routes via Panama Canal as less favorable due to cost and risk.
