Broadcast unit budget approval details and funding
The measure approves 50 million dollars for fiscal 1974 and 360 million for fiscal 1975 for the broadcast unit, with a possible extra 10 million if matched by private funds. Nixon sought 40 million for 1974 and vetoed a 90 million 1974 cap last year. The bill also authorizes 25 million for 1974 and 306 million for 1976 for HEW grants to noncommercial educational TV and radio facilities, counter to Nixon’s desire to maintain a 3 million annual level.
