Young hero Butch Gless rescues girl from bay
In 1962 Marshall Butch Gless, then 16, braved cold 65 degree waters near Tampa to rescue Charlene Penley after a drifting boat left her stranded. He swam to her, grabbed her by the hair to guide her, and helped carry her to shore as onlookers called for aid. He earned national recognition for bravery.
