Respect for Nixon rises in Harris poll
The Harris Survey of 1,901 households in July shows a 54 percent disapproval of Nixon not inspiring confidence, with 40 percent opposite. Voters credit his foreign policy stance and decisive actions, though 48-40 percent still think he has not kept his pledge to end U.S. involvement in Vietnam. McGovern’s challenge is to counter Nixon’s growing respect as chief executive.
