Watergate ties linger for Mitchell and Stans

Washington The acquittal of John N. Mitchell and Maurice H. Stans cannot end their legal woes. Mitchell faces a six count indictment in the Watergate conspiracy case and is a target in two other probes into alleged campaign fund favors from dairy interests and ITT. Stans faces scrutiny over possible illegal corporate contributions to Nixon's campaign. Pretrial motions are set for Wednesday, with the trial slated for September 9.

Jurors say Dean had relatively minor role in case

New York bank vice president Andrew Choa, juror, says the panel that acquitted Maurice Stans and John Mitchell viewed John Dean as having a relatively minor part in the case. Jurors note Dean’s credibility was questioned after his Watergate obstruction plea. The jury also asked the judge to reread the credibility charge.

Vesco still not off hook after acquittals

UPI reports that after John M. Mitchell and Maurice H. Stans were acquitted on criminal conspiracy charges the government asserted fugitive financier Robert L. Vesco is not off the hook.
