Mob Attacks Police In Islip Morning Roughing and Gunfire
Two Islip policemen were beaten and one shot three times with his own gun as a mob of more than 30 people attacked during a speeding stop in Carleton Park. Patrolman Edwin Michel, 26, was gravely wounded. Patrolman George Forrester escaped with his derringer after the mob seized their weapons. Nathaniel Ford, 31, of Central Islip, the motorist, was wounded but in satisfactory condition. Authorities label the assault an unprovoked attack on law and order with racial tensions cited in the incident.
