Brown Concedes Defeat of Pay Bill in California

SACRAMENTO The Senate Labor Committee voted 4-3 to send the minimum wage bill to an interim two year study after Brown conceded defeat for his proposal. The measure sought 90 cents an hour for farm workers and 1.25 dollars for most other earners. Brown said the fight would continue in the 196 Legislature and framed the setback as a war against poverty. He defended ongoing study by the committee and dismissed charges that he was delaying actions to push tax plans.
