Raft Acali to test gender roles across Atlantic voyage
Seven women including an Arab and an Israeli will steer the raft Acali toward the Americas with six men in subordinate roles. A Swedish woman captain and American navigator lead a diverse crew of Israeli Czech doctors and other specialists. The project, led by Mexican anthropologist Santiago Genoves, aims to study friction between sexes, not sexuality, as departure from the Canary Islands is planned for early May and six months to reach Yucatan.
