Obstetric Care Reforms Urged By Dr Newton
Dr Niles Anne Newton, Northwestern University expert in psychology of childbearing, argues for major changes in obstetric service. She criticizes low maternal input in care decisions, urges nourishment during long labor, refutes flat delivery positions, and advocates involving fathers, fewer enema routines, and open mother infant bonding. She notes costraint in sharing information and calls for collaboration between mothers and professionals to align care with research and physiology.
