County supervisors adopted new limits on moonlighting for workers with two county jobs. The policy targets 10 employees, reduces overtime for physicians from 32 to 24 hours weekly while preserving a 24 hour cap for other staff. The plan otherwise leaves part time needs to the county personnel director.
County supervisors ordered an investigation of the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center after a complaint from Hospital Workers Union Local 434 general manager Eleanor M. Glenn described disgusting and dangerous garbage, refuse, and contaminated material dumped on floors and spread by wheels through the hospital. Debris and spoiled food at docks risk contamination.
Dr. Paul Woudenberg, former Long Beach minister, was reappointed Friday to the county’s Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission. He previously served until a year sabbatical for study in Africa and Europe and was then minister in Santa Monica.
The Board of Supervisors voted to merge two proposed buildings at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey into one complex, aiming to cut construction and operating costs. Officials cited savings from combining a stroke center and catastrophic illness unit. The decision follows a rise in the acting coroner medical examiner’s salary from 2327 to 2592 dollars monthly amid debate over severance.
The county Flood Control District will open bids on May 23 for four miles of water line to stem salt water intrusion in Wilmington. Plans cover two points of the Dominguez Gap sea barrier with pressure reducing and chlorination stations. Work starts Alameda Street near Carson Street and largely follows the Dominguez Channel. Disposal lines for flushing wells run west in Grant Street. Plans by M A Nishkian and Company of Long Beach as consulting engineers.
Cerritos College political science chair Sherill Moses was elected to the Executive Committee of the California Conference of the AAUP. The 88 campus group with active Cerritos involvement since 1962, Moses helped found the Cerritos Chapter in 1966 and led it as president. A La Mirada resident, he serves on the La Mirada Planning Commission.
Improvements are slated for two Lakewood area underpasses on the San Gabriel River Riding and Hiking Trail. Alondra Blvd and Carson St underpass work costs about 18 800 while Del Amo Blvd project estimates 30 600 for a 420 foot reinforced concrete box entrance structure with fencing drainage and electrical facilities. The trail runs from Long Beach to the northern county line and beyond into Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
