Flood danger far from over in Minot North Dakota
Minot city officials warned residents that flood danger remains despite a slow river drop. The Souris River crest was 7 feet above flood stage, with 70 000 cubic feet per second flows expected to continue for days and above normal until mid May. About 12 000 people evacuated last week may be out of their homes for weeks as sandbagging and dike work continue and warnings of underground water boils persist.

Train argues for testing rules, market disclosures, and broad authority to regulate or ban chemicals posing health and environmental risks. Justice Dept defends IRS checks on jurors
The Justice Department defended using IRS background checks on some jurors. Thornburgh said the practice is not routine but warrants gathering tax data to improve jury integrity. Some U.S. attorneys use the checks while others do not, with IRS data limited to yes or no inquiries about tax problems. Church condemned the practice as abuse of confidential IRS information.
