Aspin accuses Air Force of backing private membership drive
Wisconsin Democrat Aspin charges the Air Force promoted Air Force Association recruitment among officers. He cites Gen J D Clay Jr and a memo urging participation in the 1974 Blue Suit drive, calling it possibly illegal use of federal influence and funds to affect Congress. He plans legislation to restrict officers joining defense budget groups.
