Psychiatrists Link Marijuana to Teen Mental Illnesses
Two psychiatrists from Philadelphia report in AMA journal that moderate to heavy teenage marijuana use, defined as two or more weekly uses, correlates with ego disturbances and psychosis in 38 patients aged 13 to 24 who used no other drugs. The study notes poor social judgment, attention deficits, mood issues, paranoia, and several psychotic reactions attributing to marijuana, including four severe cases and one suicide attempt while using it.
