Nebraskas legislature approves sales and income tax
Nebraska’s one house legislature adopted a combined sales and income tax to address a fiscal crisis. The measure passed 38 to 11 on final reading with an emergency clause for the sales tax to take effect May 1, while the income tax begins January 1. The plan, proposed by Gov. Norbert Tiemann, ends reliance on the state property tax for revenue.
