Tiros Sees Big Cloud Movement
The United States weathereye satellite Tiros I photographed a vast cyclonic cloud movement in the central Pacific between Hawaii and the equator. Spanning about 2,000 miles, the formation has persisted for most of the 11 days in orbit, with project manager William Stroud noting it as the largest observed and beyond ground view. The images also reveal distant features such as Lake Baikal, Lake Chad, and the Kurile Islands.
