Ray says others aided King killing in Ray confession
Former House assassinations counsel Rich ard A. Sprague said James Earl Ray claimed other people were involved in a conspiracy to kill Martin Luther King. Ray alleged a Memphis figure named Raoul directed the operation and that he delivered the rifle to Raoul before fleeing. Sprague noted investigators question whether Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in Kennedy's death and urged an independent panel free from pressure to reexamine both cases.

New York AP United States SALT negotiator Paul Warnke warned on CBS Face the Nation that failure to secure an arms agreement with the Soviet Union could require the United States to spend billions more on defense. Warnke noted talks and a Geneva meeting in May, with potential pre talks on civil defense and an expanded nuclear test ban. In Nashville Eddie Miller co writer of Release Me died at 57.
