L B Rockhounds Struck by Jet in Death Valley
Long Beach rockhounds Milo Potter and Paul Nett recalled a harrowing Death Valley encounter when a jet strafed a road they were driving on. They reported shells and dust puffs, estimating about 50 hits seven miles north of Camp Irwin within the national monument. The Air Force indicated it unlikely a military jet caused the incident and promised an investigation. Nett urged action and suggested metal-detector recovery of shell fragments.
