Rise of leukemia linked to X rays in expectant mothers
New Orleans reports from Tulane University indicate pelvic X ray exposure during late pregnancy correlates to higher leukemia risk in offspring. Study comparing 300 unradiated children with 80 leukemic and 70 other malignancy cases found twice as many leukemia cases among children of irradiated mothers, with about one in five expectant mothers exposed routinely. Nearly a third of other malignancies also traced to maternal diagnostic radiation.
