Polio dollar clinic plan rejected by doctors
Long Beach health officials and civic groups failed to gain endorsement for a dollar clinic vaccination scheme. Physicians’ groups opposed the plan unless supported by the city medical association, while officials consider immunization a public health matter and aim to warn the community. Local leaders seek alternative sponsorship to expand low cost polio inoculations.

Vickers argues against Signal Hill consolidation with Long Beach
Vickers outlines county stance preferring contractual services to Signal Hill to avoid consolidation. He compares populations, assessed values, and per capita taxes noting Signal Hill is smaller with lower service levels yet relies on Long Beach for fire protection and other services. He asserts Signal Hill is economically and functionally part of Long Beach and opposes county policies that would push consolidation.

Court orders Nutrilite sell to M&C under injunction
Superior Judge Joe Raycraft issued an injunction preventing Nutrilite Products Inc. from selling the supplement except to Mytinger & Casselberry Inc. or not selling it at all. The order stays in effect until M&C’s suit for a permanent injunction is resolved, with the court retaining jurisdiction to modify as needed. M&C contends Nutrilite seeks to seize its 78,000 strong distributive staff. Nutrilite claims the 13 year contract is void or unenforceable. M&C has been sole purchaser and distributor since Sept. 1, 1945, with annual sales rising from 50,000 to a peak of 28 million dollars in 1956.
