28 Million Women Quit Pill Despite Not Outlawing It
Harris survey finds 28 million American women stopped using birth control pills due to reports of harmful side effects. Yet public opinion largely opposes banning the pill by 47 to 27 percent, arguing each woman should decide for herself. The study notes 50 percent of past users have given up, with 60 percent viewing pills as dangerous and 17 percent saying not dangerous. Patterns show regional and demographic differences, with the West, suburban areas, and those with some college showing the steepest drops.
