Two fathers held in slaying of Cypress woman
Five children left mother Jess by the brutal slaying of a Cypress woman were staying with their grandmother today not fully aware of their loss. Orange County sheriff's detectives said the investigation into the death of Mrs Alms Mendershot dulled the impact on her children who range in age from 6 to 13. The children Johnny 13 Frank 12 Joe 9 Darlena 11 and Diane 6 know their mother is dead but do not grasp the significance. Both her present husband Park Hendershot 40 a dairy worker and John M Lawrence 36 were booked on suspicion of murder after detectives questioned them. Lawrence lived with the slain woman's mother at 21511 Bloomfield St Hawaii Gardens. Both men denied involvement though their stories do not match. Detectives plan lie detector tests today and seek coroner inquest and complaints against Hendershot and Lawrence. Lawrence's oldest son Johnny told investigators he witnessed events Monday night. Detectives said the trio visited bars in Cypress and Hawaiian Gardens area from 6.
