Ex-Douglas Man Named SST Program Director
Former Douglas aircraft engineer and test pilot William M. Magruder, who flew a DC-8 faster than sound in 1961, will lead the nation’s SST development program. Volpe announced Magruder’sSelection in Washington as he moves from Lockheed where he helped shape the Delta-wing SST concept and advised on the L-1011 project.
