Buses See Influx as Fare Cut Attracts Riders
Long Beach and area bus services report a morning surge after the new reduced fare began. Drivers noted about 10 percent of riders were unaware the fare program started. Officials say double information calls and lines running at reduced capacity with extra buses helped prevent overcrowding. Fare reductions drew more workers to shipyards and university routes, while free transfers to Los Angeles buses remain for an extra 10 cents for riders entering LA. Senior fares stay at ten cents all week.
