High school homemaker turns scientist in training
Janet Abrams, Millikan High School senior, parlayed a homemaking course into a science career. She won $500 as California runner-up in Betty Crocker’s Homemaker of Tomorrow, studied oceanography at Scripps, and will attend Chapman College on an $8,400 geology chemistry scholarship. She aims for geology, notes gender bias in science, and plans for a future career and possible adoption. She also pursues music, art, and cooking, balancing academics with singing and theater.
