William Wilson for State Senator in Chippewa Valley
From all the circumstances, we are convinced that no better selection could have been made for State Senator than William Wilson. A pioneer on the Chippewa River, he brings energy and qualifications for an able representative. He has not actively pursued politics, mainly engaged in lumber manufacturing, and settled in Duan County in 1846. Wilson is well known in Chippewa valley for integrity, honor, and ability, with strong local popularity guaranteeing his election. We also received a letter following the above Extra publication.

A Madison writer reports the second bill passed by the Madison Legislature and approved by the Governor would route land grants to the La Crosse and Milwaukee Railroad, prompting hastily announced route plans and accusations of public opinion manipulation. The act authorizes survey and construction from Madison through Portage City to Lake Superior, with contingencies about the route and endpoints and a rebuttal of false claims linked to a rival route, amid political tensions and a note on eligibility in South Canada.
