Misleading Ads Lead to Wedding and Woe
A curious tale from The Commercial Journal highlights two paired ads seeking a partner and a wife. Jefferson Brown answers a misleading invitation and, after a comic misunderstanding, marries Mary Smith, a widow with fortune. A railroad tale follows, where President Warburton teaches a young man not to judge by appearances, ending with a civility lesson.

Seasons of Fall And Echoes Of Old Life In A Country Scene
A rambling prose piece paints fall weather and rural life with vivid, old fashioned imagery. It recalls winds, leaves, birds, and harvests, then shifts to reflections on Saturday nights, memory, and longing for home. An inserted excerpt credits Henry Clay and a speaker praising public oratory.
