Odd Ballad of the Judge and the Fat Cow Favor

Squire Wick, a local lawyer, visits Judge Crunch and is tricked into choosing a fat cow as a stock gift. Amid laughter and feigned pride, the Squire selects the fattest cow, only to learn his ploy’s outcome when the cow’s owner and the judge reveal the prank. A Pennsylvanian dialect vignette and a brief rural joke close the tale with a Sunday School quip.
