Nomination drama shapes Lincoln Seward ticket
The 1860 Republican National Convention pivots to Abram Lincoln as presidential nominee with New York’s delegation backing Seward but shifting to a Lincoln run. Delegates hear speeches by Angrois Schurz Blair and Brownell as Illinois Arkansas and Wisconsin press praise the unified ticket. The vice presidential nod goes to Hannibal Hamlin on the second ballot amid party unity. Lincoln’s reaction in Springfield is noted as restrained and hopeful.
