First annual editors meeting St Croix Valley Wisconsin

Monday last marked the first annual meeting of the St Croix Valley editors with Wisconsin papers represented. A unity organization was formed, resolutions adopted, and a forthcoming notice promised. P V Wise gave an address at the Court House and Orpheus Vest read a poem. next meeting set for about a year hence. Abs N M Markle changed premises on Main Street near the levee, offering larger rooms and ample meals. Meat prices and relations noted, with calls for fresh meat. Congregational preacher Rev S F Drew announced, and Rev A D C nam to remain until October. Main Street improvements to Pirner and Cook’s buildings enhance the street scene. Common Council minutes of 1959 show liquor licenses to Beardsley & Lyford, Dilly N S Dunbar, G H J O Brine, and Peter Bott, all expiring June 5, 1859, plus George S Hore’s bowling alley license. Licenses for two billiard tables held by Aloser and Eames. Bott’s peg table noted. Authorities urged compliance or legal action.
