The Washington correspondent reports on Choate supporting Buchanan while excoriating Reed Dudley of Philadelphia and notes a Rochester murder verdict. Emigration declines, Edward Everett praised, barley sold in Cincinnati, and Stoughton immunity case mentioned. Rail and river freight, St Paul breweries, and Minnesota Joay project vote cited. House delays Lecompton debate as political tides shift.
