Prescott Wis issues from the city and county page present fragmentary notes dated January 36 1963. The readable text mentions urban concerns and local topics with garbled districts and institutions referenced in broken form. The item resembles a community brief or column segment with partial city notices.
The piece argues that rising Southern resistance and state actions threaten the Union. It questions Confederate aims, contemplates restoration and reconstruction, and endorses a cautious separation to avert civil war while preserving the nation’s future.
The text argues that existing rulers cannot be coerced but must be content with concessions, warning that immediate Union preservation requires firm action. It portrays the South as foreign enemies like Mexico or New Granada and calls for substantial confiscation of Southern government property, warning that war is inevitable if the North delays.
Report lists the nomination of a Republican for U.S. Senator by a party caucus amid unsettled results. It notes Judge Howe praised as a capable state figure, and mentions various Civil War era tensions, militia actions, and mounting secessionist moves across South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, and Louisiana. It also covers Senate withdrawals by Mississippian, Floridian, and Alabama senators and expected follow-ons.
A lengthy analysis critiques the value losses across real estate, crops, and manufactured goods, estimating billions in depreciation and questioning who bears the cost. It cites price declines in cotton and wheat, producer versus consumer losses, and hints at political and legal maneuvers surrounding the figures and policy.
The Senate on the 15th adopted amendments to the Pacific Railroad bill requiring return to the House for concurrence. This move risks defeating or delaying passage of the measure.
