Murder Near Waukashaw Shocks Lake City Readers

The Lake City Vibune reports a brutal murder on Friday night the 18th near Waukashaw. An old man named Polhemus, holder of a claim for Dr. Enright, was dragged from bed and shot by a group opposed to the Enright faction. The act is described as ruthless and unprovoked, with calls for the perpetrators to be found and punished. Also noted is a Washington update: under the March 8 1857 act, public lands west of the river and a 30 mile east strip are withdrawn from sale until further notice, except certain northern townships.
